Vacuum: An In- Depth Look

Vacuum is a subject largely misunderstood in our industry.  In this section, we address vacuum efficiency, what it is and how it plays a part in optimum truckmount performance.

Consider this:

The "lift" we typically speak of is actually, "available lift". A vacuum gauge indicates how much has been consumed of that amount. For instance, if the vacuum relief is set at 15" and the gauge reads 10", then you only have 5" more of the available lift. In other words, your system and hoses have introduced enough resistence to "use up" about 2/3 of the available vacuum strength, before the wand hits the floor.
